Each swimmer will receive a team shirt and swimming cap at the start of season that should be worn to all meets.
We will offer a Little Waves team that will accommodate those children not quite ready for swim team. This group includes those children that know how to swim but cannot swim a full length of the pool with confidence. The age group is 4-6 year olds and will meet on Mondays- Thursdays for 30 minutes for one of two available sessions either from 8:55-9:25 OR 9:30-10:00 AM. Little Waves will swim an exhibition event at the beginning of the meets at all of the home swim meets this season. This is an option when parents register online this year. Swimmers must be 4 years old by May 1st to be a part of the Little Waves program- no exceptions.
There will be a fitting kit housed at the tennis center from Monday, April 17th– Monday, May 1st. for your convenience. Just ask the front desk where to get it. There will also be a suit fitting at the Windward Tennis Center on April 23, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 PM if you need to try on a suit before ordering one AND your swimmer can meet some of the coaches. To order suits, go to www.augustaswim.com. Enter the user name: LW and password: 1234. The suits are shipped directly to your home. Please order suits before May 1, 2017 to ensure you have your suit by the first meet which is on Thursday, June 1st.
KICK OFF PARTY
On Sunday, May 21st, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 PM, we will host a party to kick off the summer swim season at the pool. There will be a parent meeting from 2:30-3:00 PM under the big blue umbrella to review the volunteer jobs that are needed at all swim meets. There will be a DJ playing music along with free ice cream for the swimmers. It is sure to be a good time for the swimmers and an informative meeting for the parents.

SIGN UP FOR A MEET
It is critical to commit your swimmer for EVERY meet the Thursday BEFORE the meet (that is one week before the meet you are committing for). If you say you are coming to a meet, you must show up for the meet unless you have an emergency or the child is suddenly ill. If you do not commit your child, we assume you are not coming. Going forward, we will not work kids into the meet if they are not committed as it is an ASA rule that we exchange the meet line-up the day prior to the meet and we are breaking the rules to add swimmers to the roster after the exchange.
Also, if you say you are coming and don’t show up, it destroys the roster and all relays. This is not only hours of work for the coaches, but it’s disappointing for the children your child is teamed up with on those relays if they don’t get to swim.
- Atlanta Swim rules say we are not to change rosters 24 hours before the meet.
- Every swimmer can swim 4 events, 2 relays and 2 individual events.
- If, for example, 20 people do not show up that say they are coming, there is a HUGE ripple effect when people do not show up that are committed.
- That would be 80 events that would be effected not to mention the kids that couldn’t swim their relay because someone is a no show.
- Please be respectful of our coaches and their time and commit to the meets and do everything you can to stick to your promise.
SIGN UP FOR JOBS
After committing to the meet, please sign up for a job. We need over 75 volunteers to run a meet, please help out so it is fair for everyone. We don’t want the same parents volunteering all the time while others sit back and watch. Please sign up as much as possible to help meets run smoothly. We are all there to see our children swim, but they can’t time themselves, judge the event, record the times, keep the score, run bull pens, get themselves to the block nor make their ribbons without your help!
Bullpens are set up to get swimmers to their events. For 6 & under children, make sure your child knows where you are at the meet. Bullpen parents are not responsible for taking children to the restroom or babysitting your child. If you know your child will need you to be in the bullpen with them, then please sign up for that job. 6 & unders are done after backstroke which is event 36. Please make sure you pick up your child after that event.
It is expected that the bullpen area is clean before leaving for the evening. There are trash bags at each bullpen. We encourage all of the children to pick up before they leave.
Ribbons can be picked up at the pool the day after our swim meet at their practice. There are file folders on the tables at the pool labelled with each family’s name so all ribbons will be placed in your family folder.
Stroke clinics will be offered on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30. The head coach will determine what skills will be the focus that week. No sign up is needed and it is free for the swimmers. There will be no instruction for the Little Waves during this time.
The end of season banquet will be Thursday, July 6th from 5:00-9:00 PM at the pool. We are planning on having the inflatable slide again this year! It was a huge success last year!
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
This is the end of the season meet that is at Georgia Tech where all teams throughout the entire league compete. It will be on Friday, June 30th at 3:00 PM. It is a great opportunity for all of our swimmers. We encourage all parents to have their child(ren) attend this event.
The Championship Final is on Saturday, July 1st. The start time for the 10 and unders will likely be 10:00 or 11:00 AM. The start time for the 11 and overs will likely then swim at 4:00 or 5:00 PM.
Qualifiers are determined by overall results from all Divisional sessions:
- TOP TEN relay times
- TOP THIRTY 10 & under individual times
- TOP TWENTY 11 & over individual times
The coaches will be calling you on Friday night (June 30th) if you make it to finals on Saturday, July 1st. As with all of our swim meets, we will need volunteers to help run the meet at GA Tech. We will notify you once job sign up is available on our Team Unify web site.
